Definition
Udp-α-d-xylose is a member of the class of compounds known as pyrimidine ribonucleoside diphosphates. Pyrimidine ribonucleoside diphosphates are pyrimidine ribonucleotides with diphosphate group linked to the ribose moiety. Udp-α-d-xylose is soluble (in water) and a moderately acidic compound (based on its pKa). Udp-α-d-xylose can be found in a number of food items such as hickory nut, agave, jujube, and brassicas, which makes udp-α-d-xylose a potential biomarker for the consumption of these food products.
Belongs to the class of organic compounds known as pyrimidine nucleotide sugars. These are pyrimidine nucleotides bound to a saccharide derivative through the terminal phosphate group.
