3-o-β-d-glucosyl-brassicasterol is a member of the class of compounds known as steroidal glycosides. Steroidal glycosides are sterol lipids containing a carbohydrate moiety glycosidically linked to the steroid skeleton. 3-o-β-d-glucosyl-brassicasterol is practically insoluble (in water) and a very weakly acidic compound (based on its pKa). 3-o-β-d-glucosyl-brassicasterol can be found in a number of food items such as salmonberry, abalone, roman camomile, and canola, which makes 3-o-β-d-glucosyl-brassicasterol a potential biomarker for the consumption of these food products.
