Definition
1d-chiro-inositol, also known as 1,2,3,4,5,6-cyclohexanehexol or inositols, is a member of the class of compounds known as cyclohexanols. Cyclohexanols are compounds containing an alcohol group attached to a cyclohexane ring. 1d-chiro-inositol is soluble (in water) and a very weakly acidic compound (based on its pKa). 1d-chiro-inositol can be found in a number of food items such as chicory leaves, bayberry, mustard spinach, and strawberry, which makes 1d-chiro-inositol a potential biomarker for the consumption of these food products. 1d-chiro-inositol may be a unique E.coli metabolite.
Belongs to the class of organic compounds known as cyclohexanols. Cyclohexanols are compounds containing an alcohol group attached to a cyclohexane ring.
