Definition
5-hydroxy-2-oxo-4-ureido-2,5-dihydro-1H-imidazole-5-carboxylate, also known as 2-oxo-4-hydroxy-4-carboxy-5-ureidoimidazoline, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as alpha amino acids and derivatives. These are amino acids in which the amino group is attached to the carbon atom immediately adjacent to the carboxylate group (alpha carbon), or a derivative thereof. 5-hydroxy-2-oxo-4-ureido-2,5-dihydro-1H-imidazole-5-carboxylate is an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa). 5-hydroxy-2-oxo-4-ureido-2,5-dihydro-1H-imidazole-5-carboxylate exists in all living organisms, ranging from bacteria to humans. Outside of the human body, 5-hydroxy-2-oxo-4-ureido-2,5-dihydro-1H-imidazole-5-carboxylate has been detected, but not quantified in, soy beans. This could make 5-hydroxy-2-oxo-4-ureido-2,5-dihydro-1H-imidazole-5-carboxylate a potential biomarker for the consumption of these foods. 5-hydroxy-2-oxo-4-ureido-2,5-dihydro-1h-imidazole-5-carboxylate is part of the Purine metabolism pathway.
Belongs to the class of organic compounds known as alpha amino acids and derivatives. These are amino acids in which the amino group is attached to the carbon atom immediately adjacent to the carboxylate group (alpha carbon), or a derivative thereof.
